What areas does Knight Environmental serve?
We provide residential garbage collection in rural and unincorporated areas of central Illinois - including Mansfield, the Ivesdale to Bement corridor, and areas outside the city limits of Monticello and Mahomet. We do not extend north past Dewey, east past Saybrook, or inside Rantoul city limits. Commercial pickup is available for businesses in Monticello and Mahomet. How do I sign up for garbage collection?
Getting started is easy. Call us at (217) 489-9380 or fill out the contact form on our website. We'll confirm your address is in our service area, walk you through your options, and get your first pickup scheduled.
What day will my garbage be picked up?
Pickup days vary by location. When you sign up, we'll confirm your scheduled collection day. If you're ever uncertain, you can call our office Mon-Fri from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
What happens if my pickup day falls on a holiday?
We will communicate any schedule changes due to holidays via our social media channels and by direct contact. Follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/knightenvironmentalservices for updates.
What size dumpster do I need?
The right dumpster depends on your project size. For small home cleanouts or single-room renovations, a smaller container typically works well. For full home cleanouts, roofing jobs, or construction projects, a larger roll-off is usually the better choice. When in doubt, going one size up saves you from overfill fees. Call us and describe your project - we'll give you a recommendation.
How long is the dumpster rental period?
All of our roll-off dumpsters are rented for 10 days. If you need additional time, we charge $10 per extra day. Just let us know before your pickup date and we can arrange an extension.
What can I put in a roll-off dumpster?
You can dispose of most non-hazardous materials, including household junk, furniture, appliances (call to confirm), construction debris (drywall, lumber, roofing shingles), yard waste, and renovation materials. Prohibited items include hazardous chemicals, paint, tires, batteries, and liquids. When in doubt, ask us before you load.
Are there weight limits for dumpsters?
Yes. Each dumpster rental includes a weight allowance. If your load exceeds that at the landfill weigh-in, an overage charge will apply. We'll share the landfill ticket with you so you know exactly what was recorded. We can give you typical weight estimates for common project types before you start.
How far in advance should I book a dumpster?
We recommend booking at least a few days in advance to ensure availability. During busy seasons (spring and summer), lead times can be longer. Call us as early as possible and we'll do our best to accommodate your timeline.
Where will the dumpster be placed?
We will place the dumpster in the location you specify - typically a driveway, parking lot, or designated job site area. Please ensure there is clear access for our delivery truck (usually needs about 60 feet of clearance). Dumpsters should not be placed on public streets without a permit from your municipality.

What if my pickup is delayed?
We always do our best to stick to the scheduled pickup time, but occasional delays can happen due to weather, equipment, or road conditions. We communicate proactively with customers when delays occur. You can also check our Facebook page for any service announcements.

What sizes of roll-off dumpsters do you offer?

How long can I keep the dumpster?
We offer flexible rental periods to accommodate your project timeline, from a few days to several weeks. Let us know your needs, and we’ll arrange the rental period accordingly.
What items are NOT ACCEPTABLE?
The following items are NOT acceptable at any of our landfills even inn household waste:
- Tires of any type (truck, auto, farm, etc.)
- Lead-Acid Batteires (e.g. auto)
- Liquid Paint (dried paints are usually acceptable)
- Liquid Used Oil
- Landscape Waste (from the cutting and trimming of grass, leaves, bushes, trees, etc.)
- Animal Carcasses (unless approved by WAC)
- Medical Sharps (unless containerized)
- Mercury Thermostats
- White Goods (e.g. refrigerators, rangers, freezers, air conditioners, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, stoves, ovens, water heaters, clothes dryers, washers, dish washers, water coolers, heat pumps, chillers, furnaces, and boilers)
- Electronic Waste (effective 1/1/12 including computers (desktop or notebook), computer monitors, printers, televisions, electronic keyboards, facsimile machines, videocassette recorders, portable digital music players, digital video disk players, video game consoles, small scale servers, scanners, electronic mice, digital converter boxes, cable receivers, satellite receivers, digital video disc players
